DL344: The Frankenstein Show

Posted by Dan Levy.

Skeets had to postpone his (heavily plugged) appearance for a trip to the ER, so rather than ask Nick about the Basketball Jones, we talk some Grapefruit League baseball.

And while we’re talking about Stephen Strasburg’s impact on the Nationals, our D.C. friend and resident GOPerative Phillip Stutts calls in to talk about the crazy insane Eric Massa media tour yesterday. Stutts is a pretty connected guy, so he shares some Inside the Beltway insight into how the White House feels about Congressmen and what the whole shakedown of Massa’s resignation really means.

Somehow this turns into a conversation about discussions in the shower which the leads to a HARD LEFT TURN back to baseball to discuss Bill Conlin’s claim that the Phillies have the best infield of the modern era. Is it better than the Yankees? Could the two best infields in the last 50 years both be playing right now?

COURT REPORT:

We give our day one BIG EAST roundup and look forward to today’s action, which is hugely important for bubble teams. And is Butler’s win of the Horizon good or bad for the league? Had Butler lost, the Horizon would get two bids, so clearly you’d think the league was rooting against it’s best team. But now that they’ve won, it increases the chances of a higher seed, which could me a deeper run in the tournament.

And we talk about which is more important to a team…a deep run in the NCAAs or winning the conference title.

We end our basketball talk with some women’s commentary. We are not taking anything away from the UConn women when we say this, but can we (and by we I mean ESPN) stop comparing their record to the men’s game? It’s a different sport. The ball is a different size, the clock is different, the points you get for shooting from different distances has, at times, been different. It’s like comparing a softball coach to a baseball coach. Let the women have their own records. Comparing to men’s teams doesn’t enhance the game, it actually devalues their accomplishments a bit.

HOUSEKEEPING:

Nick has a collection agency on his ass. And he’s headed to Spring Training and needs your help for suggestions where to go in the Clearwater and surrounding areas.

Thanks for listening.
