DL464: Will Brinson & I Are Giving Away Free Stuff. Plus Favre, Team Sterger and Rumors Sacking Facts

Will Brinson is on the show. He kicked my ass in fantasy football this week in the Blogger Fantasy League. We talk about how we’re both letting Team Gillette down with our shoddy play.

But, dear listener, we have a contest…for you.

You’re going to win swag — or as Brinson calls it “schwag” (Southerners) — so read very carefully.

There’s a promotion on the P&G Take it to the House page called Text it to the House. If you pick the five players who have the longest from-scrimmage run or reception, you win stuff.

I’m glad you asked, reader. You can win a signed football by Jerry Rice EVERY WEEK. Basically we were told that if you get all five right, you’re all but guaranteed at winning the grand prize which is a trip to the Super Bowl.

Yes, Brinson and I are going to try and get you to the Super Bowl. Each week, we’re going to give our picks. You go to the Facebook page or TEXT HOUSE TO 63767 and follow directions. If you do it, email us your picks (or leave them in the comments) so we know who did it because of us. If you beat me and Brinson, we’ll send you free stuff. Every week. Maybe not everyone, but someone will get hooked up.

ACTUAL FOOTBALL TALK

Well, that’s a lie. We talk about Jenn Sterger basically blackmailing Brett Favre. Is it possible that Favre has become a sympathetic figure in this whole mess? And don’t think for one minute that this has anything to do with someone who was sexually harassed. Yes, Sterger was sexually harassed by getting images of someone’s penis sent to her. That’s ridiculous…and criminal. But it was TWO YEARS AGO, and by all accounts had nothing to do with the fact that she’s no longer working for the team.

What is true is the fact that Sterger didn’t hire a lawyer and think about any “settlement” that’s been reported until after the photos were leaked to Deadspin, which obviously led to SOMEONE getting a pretty hefty payday from Gawker for giving up the images and voicemails. Was it Sterger? Was it a third-party working on her behalf? Was it a friend or confidant of hers who went rogue?

We don’t know. But what we do know is that Deadspin learned that said photos and voicemails existed because Sterger told Daulerio. That’s how this started.

Now the NFL is asking for Sterger to cooperate and she might not? Why…because she can reach a settlement with Favre and/or the Jets to keep quiet. Only, the images are already out there and Favre has admitted to leaving voicemails. So what exactly is the end-game here? I give a theory as to what Favre should do at this point and Brinson and I speculate as to how much money Sterger could be looking for from Favre because, let’s face it, the minute she told Daulerio she had these photos — and the subsequent fallout from that decision — the clock started ticking to 14:58…59…on her sports media opportunities. It’s not like she’s getting hired as a columnist anytime soon and with Vs. hiring Molly Querim to fill another female role on The Daily Line, could Sterger have seen the writing on the wall? Is that what this is, or did it just take her two years and a conversation with Deadspin to realize she’d be harassed to the point of a settlement?

Brinson and I also talk about Favre’s streak…on the field…and if Brad Childress needs to keep that in mind when he decides who is starting this weekend. We run down the rest of the NFL to talk about some (good and bad) surprises in the league so far which includes half the AFC being great and the Saints being not so great. Also, did you know that Jacksonville, with three wins, has a worse point differential than the 0-6 Bills? This is a wacky season.

Brinson plugs his stuff at CBS, which features an image of Rumors sacking Facts (above). That’s a pretty good metaphor for this whole show.
