What We’re Thankful For In Sports

Posted by Dan Levy.

This is show 481. That’s a lot of shows, which necessitates a lot of thanks. Thanks for listening, be it for just this show or every one since we started. Thanks for taking the time to visit our site — even though it’s far from what it’s going to be in the new year, I greatly appreciate those who stop by every day — and thanks, sincerely, for allowing me to play in this internet sandbox.

As for my “thankful in sports,” it’s mostly about baseball. I’m thankful the sport is more about advanced stats and new math and a player’s clutchness and contract squabbles and less about the game being tainted and full of cheaters. Sure, there are still cheaters, but we seem to be past that “era” and into one that’s a whole lotta fun to watch and fight over.

Since we do this show every year, it’s great to have an array of friends who share their stories as well. This year, we have three conversations framed inside a ton of voicemails from some names you should recognize as well as some you may not know. I apologize if you have to turn the volume up or down. It’s the best I could do with the levels with so many different phones.

Here’s the list, in the order you’ll hear them (their name links to their Twitter, the blog to their site):

Thanks to them, and especially to you. This year has been at times both the best and worst I can remember, so it’s not always easy to get up every day and talk in hopes of entertaining an anonymous listener.

The fact that so many of you aren’t anonymous anymore and have become friends (or at least internet friends) over the years is for what I will always…every day…be the most thankful.

Have a safe and delicious holiday.

I was too lazy to call in and leave a voicemail but I wanted to be sure to share what I’m thankful for in sports. Truth is I’m thankful for people like the ones listed above. After I was laid off a couple years back I dabbled in some blogging more as a way to keep me sane while searching for a job. Eventually I had a pretty nice opportunity land in my lap in which I get to cover sports and basically blog about them.

It has led to many great opportunities and I see a bright future ahead of me. I want to thank many of these guests and more for their inspiration, allowing me to vision myself taking advantage of sports blogging.

    Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
