The “Cowherd” Response To Colin Cowherd Getting A CBS Sitcom Deal

Posted by Dan Levy.

I went spanning the globe, er, internet today and came across this. To Hollywood (Reporter):

A popular sports radio talk show host has sold his life story to CBS for a sitcom deal.

The [Colin] Cowherd script sold as a multi-camera comedy to CBS, with writers Bill Martin and Mike Schiff attached (Hank, Grounded For Life), as well as executive producers Eric and Kim Tannenbaum (Two and a Half Men).

Cowherd himself has a producer credit on the untitled project, which is at CBS TV Studios.

This is a terrible idea for CBS and it will ruin American television for the next 20 years. For the next…20 years…You can remember this one moment in time because for the next 20 years, American television is ruined. Just a terrible idea. Next 20 years, you read it here first, folks. Ruined.

I can see the emails now: “Oh, Colin Dan, the next 20 years? Do you know how much television Americans will have watched in the next 20 years and how insignificant this deal will be? Colin Dan, do you know this failed before when TV tried to make a sitcom out of a sports personality’s life? Do you remember Listen Up? That show was terrible, but it didn’t set TV back. This is nothing more than CBS running out of ideas and grabbing at a brand of controversy they think they can monetize.”

I hear you, blog reader. I hear you sitcom watcher. I hear you and I can read the emails now. “Oh Colin Dan, it’s just one bad show idea that will be lucky to last a season.” Listen up, folks. Listen up, blog reader and sitcom watcher. I wouldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t for my ability to know these things. You don’t read me because I’m an idiot. I know this stuff. Next 20 years. You can thank me later.

Let’s assume the show will be about a sports radio host who moves around the country from job to job and eventually loses his wife and has to work out a new relationship with his kids. Look, I’m not a moralist, I’m not a moralist blog reader, sitcom watcher. Nobody has ever confused me with being a moralist. But to reward someone who is so clearly a terrible husband and a father…I have an issue with that. I’m sorry.

I can read the emails now…”oh Colin Dan, did you know that 50% of marriages end in divorce including 41% of first marriages? You can’t judge a man by his inability to satisfy his wife. Hollywood is full of failed marriages. That’s probably what made his story so attractive. He’s just like them. Phony and divorced.”

Yep, I see the emails now, blog reader. I hear you too, sitcom watcher. But see, I’m not a moralist. I’m sorry, but in my sitcom subjects I look for one thing, “how are you as a dad?” It’s a fact, folks. I’m not being a moralist here. It’s an absolute fact that I don’t even need to back up with actual facts that divorced men are terrible fathers.

Give me Heathcliff Huxtable. Give me Ward Cleaver. Give me Archie Bunker. Say what you want about him being a racist — I’m no moralist, and people have certainly called me a racist — but that man was a great father. Great character too.

Colin Cowherd is no Heathcliff Huxtable. He’s no…Archie…Bunker, folks. Terrible idea. Twenty years. See you later TV. See you in 20 years.

Who are you to bash a guy for getting a big deal? You sit there are tear someone apart, because why? You’re such a big person standing behind your blog tearing everyone else down. Do something good for humanity for a change. This is ridiculous.

It’s a good thing you did a strike-through on Colin’s name every time, otherwise I wouldn’t have realized you were mocking him.

What a horrible idea for a show!
