Got An Email From Lou Holtz, Subject: Onward to Victory. It’s Not About Football

Posted by Dan Levy.

I got an email yesterday from Hall of Fame coach, and ESPN personality, Lou Holtz. The subject was “Onward to Victory.” It’s about Notre Dame’s upcoming game against Pittsburgh. According to this email, the stakes are a little higher than Touchdown Jesus:

“And the other team is fierce. They will say or spend anything to get another four downs to spend our money and strip away our freedoms that have made America a beacon of hope for 234 years.”

During the 2004 election cycle I decided to sign up for the newsletters of both George W. Bush’s campaign and John Kerry’s campaign to see how both parties were starting to use email — the first wave of “new media” — to their political advantage. In the last six years, I’ve received thousands of emails through the DNC and RNC on everything from local New Jersey elections to helping to pay for Hillary Clinton’s campaign debt. There were a lot of those emails.

Seriously, they send a ton of emails. If I have to see another email with Senator John Ensign (R-NV) in a leather bomber jacket going after MoveOn.org my eyes might fall out.

Since losing the White House, the GOP has been on a two-year email attack of the other side that has only increased in intensity — and direction — in this current campaign cycle. They’ve even gotten celebrities involved…which is where Lou Holtz fits in.

Here’s the email I received yesterday, just before lunch. Doing a search today, I noticed the AP picked it up, so I’m sure this will have some legs for a while. I have not sought comment from ESPN because, honestly, what are they going to say about this? He’s entitled to his opinion, even if they include an analogy to GOP politics as a two-quarterback system. Come on, Lou! Everyone knows the two-quarterback system rarely works.

Text in full:

Dear Friend,

We are late into the fourth quarter of the midterm elections and the NRCC needs your immediate help to drive our Republican Party to Victory.

In case you don’t recognize me, my name is Lou Holtz and if my 40 years coaching college football taught me anything, it’s how to spot a winning team.

And I’m writing to tell you – Quarterbacked by John Boehner and Pete Sessions – our Republican Party has an excellent team of limited government, pro-freedom individuals ready to take the field in Washington and defeat the other team’s liberal agenda.

But they can’t find the End Zone without your support. With less than 28 days left until the election your support is needed. It may mean the difference between 38 seats and the majority.

You see, despite the slew of positive polls and media reports on our Party’s terrific chance to recapture the U.S. House majority, the truth is the ball is still on the 20-yard line with plenty of time left on the clock.

And the other team is fierce. They will say or spend anything to get another four downs to spend our money and strip away our freedoms that have made America a beacon of hope for 234 years.

My friend, YOU are the NRCC’s 12th man and they urgently need your help to win every U.S. House seat possible, fire Nancy Pelosi, and elect a Republican to the Speaker’s chair this November.

Please join me and help them by making a generous contribution of $39, $1 dollar for every seat needed create a NEW Republican Majority. Your support may mean the difference between 38 seats and the majority.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Lou Holtz,
Hall of Fame Coach

Holtz got kicked out of Arkansas Coaching position because three All-American H.S. players would not play for him after he was caught campaigning for Jesse Helms. Holtz is a Southern Strategy Racist Republican and always has been.

Nice milieu, you managed to call Lou Holtz a racist… What a well-reasoned argument. When talking with liberal trash, “racist” is the nazism of Godwin’s law. And what’s with your arrogance? Milieu? Are you trying to infer that you represent the social environment we live in? See you in November, hick.

At least we didn’t have to listen to Lou Holtz speak that drivel. We’d all be soaking wet.

Great…just what we need–another republican idiot. After nominating George W Bush and Sarah “Africa is a country” Palin you would think the US would just ignore the republican party. If we keep letting the repubs pick our leaders we really are in trouble.
