If Rob Dibble Is Gone, Who Is Left To Bitch About Balls & Strikes?

Posted by Dan Levy.

We haven’t gotten too much into the Rob Dibble news lately, mainly because it’s not as much fun to talk about things where we all agree: Dibble is brash, opinionated and so incredibly and annoyingly TERRIBLE at doing baseball games.

“Dibs” may be a dynamic and entertaining radio personality (I listened to him for quite some time on XM Home Plate PM drive show during my ol commuting days). He’s just no good at calling games.

The quick list of gripes includes mocking women behind the plate, telling Strasburg to rub some dirt on it, saying “we” during games as if he’s actually on the team and, perhaps most annoyingly, complaining about every single pitch with complete disregard for MASN’s pitch tracker.

“That ball was way outside!” Or on the outside corner, thank-you-very-much-mister-technology. It’s one thing to be a homer if you’ve played for the franchise or if you’ve been working there for 20 or 30 years. But to do it as a hired gun? Even the fans hate you then.

He’s terrible. And, per MLB.com and NBC’s Hardball Talk, he may be gone.

First, MLB.com:

TV analyst Rob Dibble will not go on the Nationals’ six-day road trip that starts Monday against the Marlins.

Dibble was expected to return to the Nationals’ booth on Saturday, but he was a no-show for Saturday and Sunday’s game between Washington and St. Louis.

More from Aaron Gleeman:

Asked to provide further details, MASN spokesperson Todd Webster said: “He asked for and was granted a few days off. Beyond that, I don’t have a comment.”

So, if Dibble is gone for good it’ll give Nats fans (finally) something to celebrate. And I’m sure “Dibs” will be fine. After all, he’s brash and opinionated. There’s always a place for guys like that.

    You want the real answer?
    Your Mama.
Most of his rants vs were against umpires or entire crews who had a lopsided zone, or play calling throughout, the game or series. Obviously for the other team. I completely support him for speaking up when he sees a team getting screwed, unlike most Nat.Broadcast Sports which tend to where blinders.
To me most of what he says is not all that shocking or contriversal.
